Last week up until now has been a relax and tune out kind of week... When I get into the routine of lounging and having time for myself it lasts for e-ter-ni-ties.I have been doing a lot of catching up on my shows. I'm on the third season of Vampire Diaries, it just keeps drawing you in! Once I'm finished with that I think I will move onto PLL. I just have to figure out where I left off last.
On a more interesting note, I made sugar wax! I loathe shaving and refuse to use hair removing creams. The idea of home brewing your own beauty products, house hold cleaning concoctions is awesome and for the most part, always cost effective.
After making the wax I set it out to cool for a bit and gave it a go. I also made my own muslin strips with non-stretch cotton fabric. First try wasn't really a success but I was reading online that you should boil it for awhile. Which I thought I did but I boiled it over today and it has a much thicker consistency that I think will be more effective in removing the hairs.
Things you will need:
- 2 c. Sugar (I used brown sugar)
- 1/4 c. Water
- 1/4 c. Fresh Lemon Juice
Start out on low hit and increase to a higher heat, stirring constantly until a thick molasses like consistency and amber hue. Make sure not to over boil!
I stored mine in a recycled jar I had laying around. After your first use, if there is still some wax left over, don't throw it out, it can be stored and used for a later time. All you have to do is reheat and set out to cool of course.
To actually use the sugar wax you will need a spreading tool i.e. tongue depressor, popsicle stick or even a butter knife. Because the recipe consists of all natural ingredients you can wash the knife. You will also need some kind of sturdy fabric to lay over the wax to pull the hairs. I craft and have an ever growing scrap pile of random fabrics so I just used some linen cloth and used my pinking shears (zig-zag blade shears) to finish the edges so they do not fray and I can just pop them into the washer. After your wax is cooled but warm enough to spread, take your spreading tool and apply a thin even coat to where ever it is that you are trying to remove your hair, place your cloth over and press firmly to adhere the cloth + wax and then pull. You may have to repeat this over a couple times to achieve your results.
I think now I will go fix myself up a nice breakfast. My boyfriend and I have our second pick up today at the CSA. I'm very excited to see what they have for us this week! Hopefully I can get my hands on some more mint! I've been making really tastey mint cacao shakes with nibs!!

So far this week has been pretty productive! My boyfriend and I have been having mini adventures and exploring the unknown. We've stopped at some really cool thrift shops, just browsing really. My boyfriend has accumulated a lot of old gaming consoles. He has some interesting ideas he wants to do with them. As for me I found myself another ouija board, I have 2 of the same boards now. They're the glow-in-the-dark ones from Parker Brothers. I found this one for a steal of... drum roll please... 25 cents! I'm very pleased! Been thinking a lot lately of what I
want to go back to school for or just random classes I'd be interested
in taking. What I have come up with is a huge mish mosh of things. To
name a few.. some sort of fashion design trade or clothing constructing
class, dancing preferably classical ballet, bone articulation classes,
art classes, anatomy courses, I was also thinking about getting back
into cosmetology but I'm more drawn to fashion than beauty.
Jess (my boyfriend) and I joined a local co-op near where we live and we had our first pick up yesterday. We are thrilled to be apart of it. Met some very friendly people and got some really delicious locally grown, fresh, organic fruits and veggies. Here's a couple photos!
From left to right... kale, rosemary, mint, ezmerelda..
..radishes, baby romaine, garlic scapes, peas..
..zucchini, strawberries, locally made garlic vinegar..
..spinach and spring onions
We made a salad yesterday with the ezmerelda and garlic scapes - very tastey!
Here's the recipe if you're interested:
- Ezmerelda
- Spring onion
- Garlic scapes
- Tomato
- Avocado
- Fresh squeezed lemon juice
- Apple cider vinegar w. The Mother
Crazy delicious combination... a new favorite!
I have been experimenting a lot with hair chemically. Not so much mine because I am content with it's health but I picked up a pack of blonde hair extensions from Sallys Beauty Supply. They were a little too yellow for my taste so I toned them down with purple shampoo and started lathering them with pastel colored dyes. I made some pink ones for my sister and for me I made a very subtle lilac color. I really want to make a minty seafoam pair and some ice blue ones!
My camera is out of battery so I'll post of some of the pieces in another post. I'm gonna go stud some jeans and catch up on Vampire Diaries. Happy June!
